Youth exchange in Vilnius – March 2019

On March 3-7,2019, participants of the international Erasmus + project „National minorities – treasure of Europe” visited Vilnius Pranciskaus Skorinos Gymnasium. Representatives of all schools got acquainted with the capital of Lithuania – Vilnius, visited the Trakai and Medininkai Castle, participated in the „Kaziukas” Fair and the Pancake Tuesday Festival, where they enjoyed pancakes and other delicacies. Students had the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge in the contest about the castles of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The students of our school took the second place. The participants of the project visited the impressive Palace of Rulers, and the next day they got acquainted with the exhibitions ??of the Lithuanian National Museum.

On Sunday, March 3, in the early morning, we met with the participants of the project from the Secondary School with Additional Teaching of the Belarusian Language in Hajnówka, who jointly participate in the Erasmus + project. Together we went to Vilnius. In Vilnius we took part in the Kaziukas fair. There we had the opportunity to try traditional Lithuanian dishes, listen to live music and buy souvenirs.

On March 4, after breakfast, an official meeting took place at the Vilnius Pranciskaus Skorinos Gymnasium . All participants of the project were welcomed by the headmaster, Diana Stachnovi?, and the teacher of the school coordinating the project, Anna Chomczuk from Hajnowka. Participants were given ecological bags and sports sweatshirts with the project logo. Later, all project participants took part in creative workshops, during which we learned how to process clay and how to make dolls by hand. Every year, the Vilnius Pranciskaus Skorinos Gymnasium organizes an internal Kaziukas fair, during which students sell their sweets and donate the collected money to charity, we also took part in the fair and sold our products, and donated the collected funds to charity. On the same day, we visited the center of Vilnius, the Old Town and got acquainted with historical places. In the evening, we tried traditional Lithuanian dishes in the Belmontas restaurant.

On March 5, we started participating in a quiz about the castles of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, organized by the Vilnius Pranciskaus Skorinos Gymnasium in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in Vilnius. The quiz was followed by the the Pancake Tuesday Festival in the gymnasium. We spent the afternoon in the 15th-century castle in Trakai. After a short history lesson, we went to a local restaurant, where we enjoyed the the local food.

On March 6, we learned to dance folk dances and sang Belarusian and Lithuanian songs, which we were taught by Valentina, a music teacher from the Vilnius gymnasium. After that, we visited the Palace of Lithuanian Lords, built on the ruins of the former Vilnius Lower Castle and Lithuanian National Museum. In the evening we had fun in the bowling alley.

On March 7, we met for the last time at a school in Vilnius, where there was an official farewell. The hosts of the meeting gave gifts to all participants and said goodbye with warm and sincere words. Nobody wanted to part, because it was a reasonable time, and warm memories will remain for a long time.
